Carnival is a time to experience the height of our nation's culture and to enjoy one another as a collective group.While we will be enjoying ourselves out on the road it is very important to remember to stay safe and vigilant. Here are 7 tips for safety while out on the road!
1. Hide yuh bling!
Try not to wear too much jewelry to make yourself an unnecessary target. There's always that person out on the road trying to forget their worries and your shining bling might be a solution to their problems.
2. Designate and Orchestrate.
Make transport arrangement beforehand to avoid being stranded and at risk. Designate a responsible and alcohol free driver. Remember that this season is fast paced and somehow everyone seems to be in a hurry, so we need to be extra safe on the roads.
3. Pump Together.
Try as much as possible to travel in groups.You are easier to target when moving on your own. While some of us believe we are "loners" it may be wiser to move with 'yuh fren and dem'.
4. Drink responsibly!
Even though they raised the price of rum in the budget I know alcohol is a must for some of us. That being said, we should try not to overdo it. It would also be a good practice to keep a 'designated sober' in the group, just in case someone does overdo. Do not accept any drinks from strangers.
5. Be discreet
Do not flaunt large amounts of money or make it too visible when pumping. Do not give anyone a reason to target you.
6. Be Vigilant!
Stay sober, you will enjoy the experience better. Keep looking over your shoulder. If you notice someone around you for a prolonged period of time, alert someone in your group.
7. Check in!
Check in occasionally with someone you trust so your whereabouts can be tracked if there is need too.
